At last, Apple finally has its own case for the iPhone XR. And you can see your phone's nice new colors through it. But $40 for a clear plastic case is way too much.

The iPhone XR’s vibrant new colors are hard to show off when the device is covered in a standard-style case. So that could certainly be a factor in why Apple decided against its usual playbook.

The iPhone XR, Apple’s new lower-priced iPhone option that starts at $749 for a 64GB model, is now available to preorder online (apple.com or the Apple Store app) or by walking into an Apple store.

Apple launched the Smart Battery Case Replacement Program, which extends the warranty of iPhone XR and XS Smart Battery Cases for an extra 12 months.

Apple hasn't released battery cases yet for this year's iPhones, including the iPhone XS and iPhone XR, but that could change before the year's end.
