Bangladesh National Museum and Ahsan Manzil reopened yesterday after Eid holidays. Their doors were open from 3:00pm onwards, but visitors found themselves faced with a unique form of suffering.
History Of Ahsan Manzil Dhaka: The site was acquired in the 1830s by Khwaja Alimullah, father of Abdul Ghani, from the French. There was a French factory or trading centre on the site.
But Ahsan Manzil and neighbouring parts remained out of the acquired area. However, many poor descendants of the nawab family, as well as needy locals, continued to occupy the palace until the 1970s.
The history and architecture of Ahsan Manzil are much celebrated. Beyond all that, there are riveting, lesser-known tales of the feasts that were hosted and the delicious foods that were served there.
Ahsan Manzil and the national museum are two such places that enrich our knowledge about our history. Therefore, the government must ensure that people do not face any trouble in visiting them.
