The mother of a Minnesota transgender man who was tortured and killed in upstate New York suggested that his death was preventable if local authorities had "done their jobs."

Sam Nordquist was found murdered and likely tortured in upstate New York. Police say the suspects knew one another and were also LGBTQ.

At this time we have no indication that Sam’s murder was a hate crime,” the district attorney’s office and New York State Police said in a statement.
