Washington’s NFL franchise used to be in the news all the time for reasons other than football. That seemed to have changed under new team ownership, but President Donald Trump’s remarks about the team name and possibly holding up a stadium deal are making waves just as training camp opens.
President Trump on Sunday publicly demanded that the Washington Commanders change the team name back to the Redskins— labeling them derisively the “Washington Whatever’s.”
Jason Buck, a Super Bowl champ and defensive end in Washington, wants to meet with Donald Trump to get the NFL franchise's old team name back.
President Trump has called for Washington's football team and Cleveland's baseball team to return to their previous names, which many considered racist.
