ICE accused the police department in Old Orchard Beach of “knowingly” hiring an immigrant who is in the country illegally, which the police chief denied.

The chief of police in a Maine resort town has called for an investigation into the arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement of one of its officers, who the chief said was federally approved to work in the country in May.

Old Orchard Beach police, who hired him as a summer employee, said federal officials cleared him to work in May.
