The South Rim Fire in western Colorado grew from 1,600 acres to over 3,000 acres Saturday after its growth and lack of containment forced the closure of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.Dozens of firefighters and other first responders were responding to the fire,

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, a popular outdoor destination in western Colorado, was closed to the public after a wildfire on the South Rim rapidly doubled in size.

Officials are ordering evacuations in Montrose County because of the South Rim Fire. They ordered these on Saturday. It’s for residents on M73, N73, N74 AND O74 roads. They are asking that you leave the area immediately.

Crews were able to get 100% containment Friday on the Mountain View Fire burning in southwestern Colorado. The wildfire burned two homes on Thursday. Crews will continue to target hot spots. The fire burned 60 acres in both Chaffee and Lake counties and prompted mandatory evacuations after it was sparked by lightning.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday that they are allowing a partial reentry into the Mountain View Fire burn area.
