Amid catastrophic flash floods in central Texas over the 2025 Fourth of July holiday weekend, a rumor spread online that one of the state's U.S. senators, Ted Cruz, continued to sightsee while on vacation in Greece the day after disaster struck his constituents.
The Texas senator was seen touring the Parthenon in Athens. His staff said the senator booked the earliest flight back to Texas when he learned of the disaster.
Cruz was asked by a reporter Monday about conspiracy theories that have popped up online suggesting the flash flooding was caused by weather manipulation. The Guadalupe River near Camp Mystic rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes due to flash flooding. But Cruz said there was no evidence that any weather manipulation was involved.
The senator coordinated with state and local officials while abroad and 'promptly' returned to Texas, his office said.
