We very much enjoyed exploring this area on our recent trip to Savannah. We enjoyed a beverage to go from a local bar/restaurant and watching both people and ships. A must do while in town.Full review by dranke
How late are the shops etc open on river street? Is this a good thing to do around 5 when all the tours are usually over? (We are not drinkers so bar scenes won't be important).

We began a bus tour there at 6:30 and returned at 8:15. It was a very busy area at both times.

There are many places to eat and hang around in Savannah. River Street is probably the most famous. If you are looking for something a little off the beaten path I would suggest the Crystal Beer Parlor (don't let the name throw you off, the food is excellent!) and the treylor park, again odd name but great food and excellent atmosphere. Enjoy your stay!

Rocks on the Roof has a beautiful and colorful view of the city. It has a warm, but clublike atmosphere. The best place for good desserts together with wines is Lulu's Chocolate bar....
