No need to book to walk around the grounds and gardens but you have to queue sometimes for the house and tower. There’s a cottage next to the main house that has timed groups , because you are conducted . The cafe can get v busy and the tables outside go quickly, especially with dog walkers.

Very easy. Direct train from Charing Cross / Victoria / London Bridge to staplehurst. Then a cab which is around £15. You must prebook - use MTC taxis.
Do you have to pay the full entrance price to walk in the estate grounds with a dog (not the gardens) and use the cafe?

Don’t believe dogs are allowed in the formal garden area. Dogs are more than welcome on the rest of the grounds and there is even a lovely small cafeteria with a lovely cakes, soup, coffee, tea etc that is set up just for people with dogs. It also sells gifts, Used books and plants. There is seating indoors or out and it’s a lovely spot. Enjoy your stay
