Crossbones Graveyard and Garden of Remembrance is a former post-medieval burial ground, the final resting place of thousands of Bankside's poor and overlooked. As a garden of remembrance, it offers a quiet space for reflection, with a particular focus on those who were felt to be 'outcast'. Mizuko jizo statues act as a focal point for people grieving the loss of a young child for any reason, while the ‘Ribbon Gates’ are adorned with tokens of remembrance by visitors from all over the world. Monthly vigils are held at the gates to honour the outcast dead (23rd of each month, 7pm). With a pond and varied planting, the garden sanctuary for wildlife too.

Part 2: I popped in there today. Apparently it was consecrated for a short while towards the end of it's 'life' but when they stopped burials they unconsecrated it again. It is blessed annually, it's owned by TfL and the bit beyond the big white boards (the paupers bit) is about to be built on. The wardens I spoke to shared my views that it is prime building siteso unlikely to be consecrated again.
