To answer my own question: To only go to the glass bridge without visiting the cannon, you must enter after there is not time for you to complete the cannon, that would be after 3:20pm. The main reason for these is to sell you more tickets for convenience. In most of the tourist attractions we visited in China they have an entry ticket, and then inside the attraction you will have to walk or take stairs to reach the attraction or pay another ticket for an elevator, bus, lift or something else. At the glass bridge the cannon is beautiful but the main attraction is bridge, so what they do is to make you cross the bridge and once on the other side you must go down the cannon and walk along the river until to reach a lake, take a boat and then you finally reach the exit (2 hours), to go down, the offer stars or you can take two elevator one slide and one zip line. The price for each is separate, and the slide and zip line does not save you time, so only do it if you want it for fun, the elevators save you time, but again the price for both is separate.

Your usual day pack should be fine. And, you can take photos using your cellphone camera, but they will require that any significant cameras (like my sister's!) be left in the lockers. Purportedly this is because if one dropped such a camera, it would scratch the glass. One could drop a cellphone camera too but I suppose they would not cause so much damage. They have lockers to leave items such as cameras, big bags, etc. nearby.
