Los Haitises National Park is a stunning protected area located in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, celebrated for its unique geological features, rich biodiversity, and cultural history. The park spans over 1,600 square kilometers (600 square miles) and is known for its dramatic limestone karst formations, which rise as lush, green hills and islands from the waters of Samaná Bay. The park is home to an extensive network of mangroves, hidden caves adorned with ancient Taino petroglyphs, and underground rivers that wind through its dense tropical rainforests. Its ecosystem supports a diverse array of wildlife, including manatees, dolphins, pelicans, frigatebirds, and numerous endemic species of plants and animals. Los Haitises is a paradise for eco-tourists, offering activities such as boat tours, birdwatching, kayaking, and exploration of its historic caves, like La Arena and La Línea.
