Hi, if you want to go to the beach area for holidays, it may be advisable to stay in your resort/hotel and always bring a big umbrella or be prepared to wait it out for the heavy rains to stop before you go out and enjoy again. I have gone during June before and if you are the type that can stop and wait for the rains to stop, you can go there for holiday. During this season, hotels are not that expensive.
We are interested in visiting the Lao island of Donsao by taking the boat across from the Thai border. I read somewhere that you had to leave your passport somewhere before you entered Laos. Is this true or do I get to hold on to my passport? Thanks!

The company that does the tour holds your passport. It was a little unsettling but it's seem less I think if you are up there,why not. Sort of a tourist trap but that is what you are.

Golden triangle is in Thailand, if you have Thai Visa you can go there. If you mean you wanna take boat trip to Laos. You don’t need visa for Laos. You show your passport and pay a small fee to officers/staff at golden Triangle and take the boat to economic zone in Laos. It’s a small island with shops etc., not much to see but still it’s worth a visit.
Sounds pretty forgettable and am wondering why so many make the trip.
